What Are Shoji Panels

These exquisite panels are of Japanese origins and they are used in homes as a divider between rooms or simply as a kind of clothes holder/fitting area as well as closet spacers.
Shoji Panels are used, also, as Summer porch panels to keep out the glaring sun and/or winds, as necessary, they are also used as sliding doors in many a Japanese household. One of the major aspects of these doors/walls is the minimal amount of space that is needed for them as opposed to the more Western swing doors that are used elsewhere.

There are many and varied styles in Shoji Panels as well as some of the material used to make them.  They are typically made of wood and sheer papers, but for more durability, they are also made of plastic rather than the sheer papers.

Some of the designs that are currently out on this exquisite form of decoration are Euclidean Dream, Fir Spheres and Cat's Eye,

Shoji panels are made from various types of wood ranging from bamboo to cherry, oak to maple and all points in between.

Another interesting and gorgeous design for the use of Shoji Panels are the patio table lamp shades, some of the design include, Bamboo, Crystal Light, Spiral, Wave, Traditional and Lighthouse.

Shoji Panels are now being used not merely as useful decors in homes but also as objects of art all over the world.

When they are used as art forms the traditional rectangular shapes are replaced by circles, ovals, squares and a myriad of other designs that show off the versatility of the panels and the many and varied ways that they can be artful as well as useful.

Shoji Masters are those who make the traditional as well as the artistic Shoji Panels, usually this process is taught from father to son and passed down for many generations.

And, such training to make designs of the Shoji Panels are also available in todays' world marketplace as many of the Masters are more than willing to share what they know of this most beautiful arr form.
